Catalina Island : Avalon, Catalina Island - 2009 - I've wanted to go to Catalina Island since I was a teenager. This year was awesome because I finally headed out there with a friend. The trip could have been a bit more adventurous but a one day visit exceeded my expectations. I originally thought this Island would have been a bit more tropical, but it was quite country in nature from shops to islanders' country accents. The other interesting part was having no vehicles outside construction trucks, jeeps and go-carts parked or driving around the island. We rented a go-cart for about 4 hours and pretty much explored most of Avalon. The next time I visit it will be more than a day. My checklist will include para-sailing, suba-diving, and a tour around the Casino Theater and Ballroom. The Casino Theatre and Ballroom happened to be closed when I visited. There is also a safari-like trip to see wildlife in other parts of the island that I'd love to explore!

Winter at the Botanical Gardens : San Francisco, California - January 2010 - This week I wanted to see the Botanical Garden during the winter. For one reason, there would be less people hanging out than during the Spring or Summer. I also wanted to see if there were anything that was still in bloom. To my surprise, there were many tiny flowers in bloom found in shrubs.

Winter at the Japanese Tea Garden : San Francisco, California - January 2010 - I haven't been to the Japanese Tea Garden since 2000, and it never seemed this awesome. While the place is a setting for romance, it does offer a relaxing environment... which I would define as peace of mind. I took an arts of history class in 2009 and learned about the Japanese culture and the arts. So, as much as these surroundings were surreal as it gets, the understanding of the arts helped me see things I probably would have never thought about otherwise.
